and what I find to be so true.

Three things I've found to be so true today:
1) Just because I might feel completely at a loss, I know that God is always with me, therefore, it is not possible for me to be alone. This is so true.

2) At the robotics competition this weekend, even if we don't win a trip to worlds, I know that it is only by God that my team got this far. This is so true.

3) I have people in my life that will always love me no matter what I've done in the past. They love me for who I am today, and for what potential I have. I know that my past is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ, and that even if I remember my past, God doesn't. This is so true. =) And comforting.

My Grandmother made this quilt for me. I love it. It's the one that's been everywhere -- camping, hunting, fishing, swimming; on picnics, on shopping sprees, on yard sale days; in snow, in rain, in hail, in sleet, in sunshine, to sleepovers, under the stars; on the 4th, Christmas day... I could go on and on. =)

I turned to look at the gruff looking character to my left.

"Sure!" I stated enthusiastically, like I state anything I speak. Why should I care if he sat in a chair three feet from me? He wasn't crowding me at all. I grinned as he sat down and then turned to my computer again.

I was at the library, on a computer.

He turned to me and I smiled again.

"I'm sorry."

My eyebrows uniformally raised and I chuckled, "It's not a problem, really."

"No, no. I mean, you just remind me of someone."

Again, my eyebrows raised. "Oh?"

"Yeah. Someone I used to know. But I don't know her any more."

I 'hmmm'ed and gave him a empathetic look.

"I just.... What's your name?"

With hesitancy, I stated my name, "Emily."

"No...."

I refrained from rolling my eyes, and patienly listened to his story.

I don't know why people do this to me. I just wait for it to happen, because it is inevidable. Something about me, people just want to share all their troubles with. I don't get it. And honestly, neither do they. =)

New Year, New Word

I was thinking. (Yes, for a change.) ;) And I have decided that I need a word to go with each year.

With the dawning of a new year; 2012 brings an irrational fear to my mind. It is with hesitancy that I contemplate what comes next in my life; not because of the unknown, but because of the sheer rashness of facts.
I felt somewhat the same feeling when I turned sixteen -- a feeling of 'what have I done with my life up to this point? do I need to be doing something more? what shall i do with myself now?. I have plans for my life -- this is not the issue. The issue is this: are my plans exactly that? My plans? Or are they the plans that God has dictated to me?
Am I making a way for myself? Or am I walking in His footsteps?

One of my very favorite quotes is this: "...you can't follow your heart because your heart can be deceived...you gotta lead your heart."

But I have found that, while it is better to lead your heart than to aimlessly follow wherever it wishes, it is even better to allow God to lead your heart. If you allow God to lead your heart, you need not worry about which direction you are going, you only need to know that God has it under control.

With those thought in mind, I choose my word. Fearless.

The definition of fearless is this: Brave. Courageous. Not without fear, but overriding fear (after all, the word is fear less). Indomitable. Undaunted. Intrepid. Sanguine.

I encourage you, in the Lord Jesus Christ, to walk fearless this year. To be bold and strong. To surpass fear and stand in unity.

What I believe about euthanasia

Euthanasia can be a very difficult issue. There are two sides that are difficult to balance. On one end, we do not want to take a person’s life into our own hands and end it prematurely. On the other end, at what point do we simply allow a person to die and take no further action to preserve life?

The overriding truth that drives the conclusion that God is opposed to euthanasia is His sovereignty. We know that physical death is inevitable (Psalm 89:48; Hebrews 9:27). However, God alone is sovereign over when and how a person's death occurs. Job testifies in Job 30:23, “I know you will bring me down to death, to the place appointed for all the living.” Ecclesiastes 8:8a declares, “No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his death.” God has the final say over death (see also 1 Corinthians 15:26, 54-56; Hebrews 2:9, 14-15; Revelation 21:4). Euthanasia is man's way of trying to usurp that authority from God.

Death is a natural occurrence. Sometimes God allows a person to suffer for a long time before death occurs; other times, the person's suffering is cut short. No one enjoys suffering, but that does not make it right to determine that a person is ready to die. Often God's purposes are made known through a person's suffering. “When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other…” (Ecclesiastes 7:14). Romans 5:3 teaches that tribulations bring about perseverance. God cares about those who are crying out for death to end their suffering. God gives purpose to life even to the end. Only God knows what is best, and His timing, even in the matter of one's death, is perfect.

Once upon a time, a fifteen year old kid skipped home from school in the snow, with a dirtbike on his mind. It was late August, and all he could think about was the feel of that throttle.

He swung the back door open, and let it slam shut. His room was the first on the right. Grinning at his superman stickers he'd stuck to the door only hours before, he flopped his backpack down on his bed and jumped up the stairs to the kitchen.

His hand poised above the freshly made stack of cookies, Twiggie jumped when his mom's voice sounded out, "Don't eat those, Twiggie."
His mom was home? She was suppose to be at work at the courthouse!
"We're having company tonight and those are for the guests."
Twiggie shrugged. "Who?"
"Please set the table, Twiggie."
Twiggie's mom was kind and no-nonsense.
Twiggie slid to the other side of the kitchen and whipped out a couple dishes. "How many people?"
"Five."
"Wait, so...me, you, Sunshine, Wood, dad, and five other people?"
"Yep. You'll have to use the leaf in the table. Holler if you need help."
"Okay." Twiggie squeezed ten place settings on the oak table and his curiosity got the better of him. "Mom," he asked again, "who are we having for dinner?"

Mrs. Straw smiled and said, "A pastor's family, so be good."
Twiggie grimaced.

The strangest dream I've ever had was when I was shipped to Africa in a crackerbox and I landed in a tribe of wild Africans! They encircled me and I was just about to be eaten alive, when my friend's dad saved me.
If I was marooned on an island with just one person, I would want that person to be my daddy.
The meanest thing I have ever done in my life was probably brake my sister's braces.
If I had one more day to live, I would want to spend it hanging out with my friends.
If someone made a movie out of my life, it would probably be titled, Bizarre Adventures, 1-65, because it would take that many to capture the true meaning of the world bizarre.
The longest I have ever continually talked without stopping is exactly 24 minutes.
I sent eight-thousand-two-hundred-forty-six text messages last month.
I get the month of December off of school. ;)

What are your thoughts on modesty? I think it's uberimportant for guys to be modest, too. Come on, if your jeans are so tight I can see your veins, it's not that modest. Also, if they're so loose I can see your drawers, it's not modest either.
Some of us feel that we either give too much effort, or not enough, in worrying about the way we dress. What is your suggestion to how you wish guys would dress? What do you like to see guys wearing? Clothes. lol. I really could care less. Personally, I love jeans and a t-shirt for everyday, if it's cold, put a plaid longsleeve, buttonup shirt over it, and if it's Sunday, wear a tie. =)
How do you feel about guys in general? Guys are so special. =) They are everything the girl is not, therefore, they *complete* the girl, even if it's in a friendship.
Do girls ever notice changes in guys? Hair styles, clothes, etc.? Duh. =P Every detail.
What is something that you want/look for, the most, in your future guy? Committed to GOD FIRST, and then *me*, for, um, EVER. A Protector, a helper, a provider, a comforter, a nurturer, and good with kids. Patient, kind, loving, teasing, wise, careful. =)
Do you often feel peer pressure from your friends? Nope. Not at all. My friends are awesome.
What do you consider flirting and what do you think of a guy when he flirts with you? It totally depends on how well I know the guy. If I know him really well, I don't think anything about it. If, however, I don't know him, I freak out and over-dramatize the situation, only to find out that he was just having fun.
How do you feel about dating? I believe casual dating is pointless and dangerous. I think each and every relationship should have a purpose.
If you agree w/ courting, how much involvement from YOUR parents do you believe is appropriate in helping you make a final choice in your future husband? None, some, or a lot? A TON. They need to be RIGHT THERE, ALL THE TIME. =)
When you’re interested in a guy, do you focus on his family too? Do you make it a point to get to know them as much as you want to get to know him? Absolutely. I mean, his family is going to be my family. I should know them pretty well. =)
What is your view on college for girls? Nope. Not for me.
What is your dream job? And why? Mother, in the kitchen, with 5 little kiddos running around, and one on the way.
What do you think the man’s role is in the home – compared to the woman’s? A man’s role is of protector, provider and leader. A woman’s is of home-maker and help-meet. Allow me to stress that I believe that each is equally as important.
How many kids would you like to have? However many God will give me. But I’ll probably end up having more. *smiles*
A lot of guys like using sarcasm around girls…do you know why that is? Nope. =) But I don't mind it at all.

I mean, what's more awesome than a hardworkin', tan, buff, sweaty, dirty, guy? =D Just kidding around here. =) Guys, there's nothing wrong with a little hardwork, but smell good, please.
Is there anything that you would appreciate guys doing differently in order to help you maintain your purity? Hmmm. Probably just not forcing themselves on me.
What are your thoughts on guys and girls hugging? Family or besties, other than that, nope, unless, like, someone just died or something. Then I'd hug a stranger.

5:20 am Dad knocks on my bedroom door. I groan.

5:32 am Dad walks in my bedroom and tussles my blankets. "Wake up, Em." I hear him call.

5:46 am I swing myself out of bed and squint at my reflection in the mirror.

6:00 am I plop myself down on the couch and try to listen to dad reading family devotions.

6:37 am I kneel to pray with my family.

7:00 am I pour a cup of coffee and dump four tablespoons of sugar in it. I need sugar in the morning.

7:05 am Finished with breakfast, which was cold cereal and milk.

7:10 am I finish the morning dishes and clean the laundry room.

7:30 am I clean my room, make my bed, and do my laundry.

8:00 am I exercise for thirty minutes, take a shower, have my personal devotions and start school.

10:00 am My mom reads to us kids -- history, cultural studies, and literature.

11:30 am I fix lunch and eat it, too.

12:00 pm I go back to doing school.

1:00 pm School.

2:47 pm School.

3:00 pm I take a thirty minute brisk walk.

3:35 pm I do school.

5:45 pm I help with dinner.

7:15 pm I do school.

8:32 pm I do school.

9:27 pm I do school.

10:51 pm I do school.

11:30 pm I put in my retainer and go to sleep.

Well, let's see. What have I been up to? My, my. More than I can explain! Thanksgiving was absolutely wonderful, incredibly delicious, and tons of fun. My family spent the holiday 4 hours south with my grandparents, my uncle, and two of my cousins, and BOY did we have a good time or what?

So I've been selected to be in 8 recitals, and in the Grand Finale, I get to wear a super formal outfit. Here's a couple of things that are along the lines of what I would like to wear:
Of course, I have to have it modest, but I was thinking navy-blue floor length dress (I'd love for it to be poofy, but I'm going to be sitting at a piano bench! I can't have it poofy!)

So anyway, long floor length dress, but it has to have a high enough neckline...

and I have to wear something over it for sleeves...

And for my hair I told mom I wanted a blue feather like the one below because I really think they are beautiful, but she told me "A FEATHER? IN YOUR HAAAIR!!!???"

So I don't think that went over very well. ;)

I might have to go with a flower.

And shoes...oo! I love shoes. I want some super super high heels, and mom (again) thinks I'm crazy. But really, when do you normally get to wear super high heels? (Never.) Of course, I'd have to take them off to pedal. That would be awesome -- playing at the Steinway Gallery in barefeet!

A Commitment to Purity

I recently found myself in the middle of a conversation.
You're thinking: Emily, that doesn't surprise me.
=)
It was a conversation on commitment and purity.
The friend I was talking to made comments such as, "saving yourself for a special someone, and that someone only," and the like. This person had a ring to signify their loyalty to their (now unknown) person.

I've been thinking about it, and if fact, have thought about it before I talked to this person, and thought that I'd rather have a watch to signify my commitment to purity. A watch is something different, useful, and more noticeable. I've already made the commitment, but my parents and I want to make a special day out of it -- buy me a watch, and take me out.

I thought this was a lovely idea. Even though God doesn't need a 'something' from us to signify our devotion and loyalty to Him, it reminds us daily that we are His and is a great idea.

This one's a little too pink. =)

Mom and I looked at special watches the other day, and I preferred the Rose Gold collection. I like that look (of the pinkish hue gold) and I also like very sparkly, very petite watches. Here are some that I looked at:

It was perfect. Rose gold, sparkly, not round... I loved it!

And then I found it!
So now I'm waiting for that date night when I will be presented with a decision of loyalty and commitment!

I just finished my extensive Math (Accounting) PACE test.
And I got a score of 96/100%. I found myself irritated at the fact that I didn't score perfectly. (100/100%).
And then I remembered this scripture, "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." -- Ecclesiastes 9:10
I did the best I could, with all my might.
And then this one popped up, "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." -- Colossians 3:17

So, no, I didn't get a "bad grade". I actually got a decent grade, I just thought I would do better than I had done.
But who cares what my grade was. It's really not going to matter 20 years from now -- or even 5 years from now anyway!

And the girls will be girls, but I know if I teach them right, they will turn out okay.
Not okay.
Magnificent.
Industrious.
Miniature mothers.
Clothing designers.
Cooks, bakers, and coffee-extremists.
Baby-diaper-changers.

And it all starts with me. I, with my husband's help, of course, will teach my children everything they will know.
And when they get of age, I will hand them off to someone else who is of fresher knowledge of me, and who will guide and direct them in the ways of knowledge.
And soon, before I can even blink, they will be sixteen.
Wondering where life will take them next.
And the boys will go to college, and the girls will stay home and become mothers -- like I will be.
I am sixteen, and (in my perfect timing) I should be married by twenty.
Four years.
I have four years to learn how to teach.

But God's timing is best. And He will provide me with the best husband (for me), and He will guide me in things that I forgot to learn.

And He will give me motherly instincts, and He will give me grace.

I know these things.

Because my mother was sixteen once.

And she had dreams, too.

Probably not.
But I'm going to whine a little bit anyway.
It's only been three weeks without sunshine, and I'm sincerely dying. My tan is gone, my cheeks are white, and my hair doesn't have any blonde highlights.
Not that I put highlights in it.
It just does that when there's 'shine-shine'.

I miss the sun!!! I feel like I live in Alaska! It's not funny! I love sunshine! I NNNEEEEEEEDDD sunshine!

*Sniff*.

So if you want to make my smile reach down to California, please send me a box of sunshine.

A big box.

That will last me at least until February.

What is Vegetarian? Is Meat Bad for Me? Help! I'm dying! What do I do?

A few months ago, I went on a 'try-it' vegan diet for four weeks.
The first two weeks were torture, but the last two were sheer heaven! I my face was flawless, and I had lost ten pounds. I felt energetic, enthusiastic (yes, more than normal!), and healthy.
It was hard though, not to eat any animal products or anything processed -- all raw, and sometimes I stole fish (because I needed meat!) but at the end of my diet, when I went to pick up a cupcake, one bite threw me off.
Was that what sugar tasted like? EWAH!

I eventually got back in to a SAD (Standard American Diet) "normal" routine, and gained back ten pounds and my face broke out again.
So, I decided that I'm going back to the vegan way of eating.

I said that Preparing to be a Help Meet by Debi Pearl changed my life. It did. But this book changed my life in a different way -- it made me realize that taking care of my body is so much more than stuffing it, watching carbs, guzzling water, and then sweating the pounds away.

Recipes for Life from God's Garden by Rhonda J. Malkmus

1. I will refer to the below diet as The Hallelujah Diet or a vegan diet. The Hallelujah diet is just what Mrs. Malkmus calls being vegan. =)
2. Being vegan is SO MUCH MORE than just not eating animal products.
3. The Hallelujah diet has healed every problem people have tried to heal. Seriously! Mrs. Malkmus mentions these things that it has healed: a dear little lady's husband who has cancer. A young mother who has Chronic Fatigue. A young married couple who cannot conceive. A pastor who has high blood pressure and hypoglycemia. A missionary who had some disease he contracted from the jungle. A person who has contracted AIDS. A woman who has menopause. An Evangelist who is losing his health. A gentleman who has arthritic pain. A missionary with a brain tumor the size of an orange.
Every single one of those people were "healed" (or made well) by this diet! It's truly God-ordained, too, as you'll come to find out. =)

Every day, my daddy gets up at four AM and heads to work. Every evening, my daddy gets off work at three-thirty PM and heads home...

Only to work again. Usually, he opens the front door and a hoard of kids (and mommy!) swarms him with hugs and kisses. Then he drinks a glass of water, and heads out to his shop where he works on another car.

Cars.
He's been working on cars all day, and he comes home and works on ... cars.
I'm so thankful for my daddy. =)

If I had to fix my car, I would ... well, I wouldn't do anything.
1. Because I don't know how and so I'd just sit in my car until it magically got fixed.
2. Because when you're car's broke down you can't really do anything.

Sometimes, I'll help him bleed brakes or something small like that. Other times, I'll just keep him company. Most of the time I sit in my bedroom thinking about how I should go help him, but in the end I never do because -- what can I do?

He's such a hard-working chap. He's on my "Mark This Guy -- I Want My Future Husband To Be Like Him" list too. =)

The Hawk and the Jewel

I've finished The Shunning, and now I'm half way through The Hawk and the Jewel.
Oh my gracious. I believe The Hawk and the Jewel is my new favorite book! (My favorite book list: 1. The Hawk and the Jewel 2. Pride and Prejudice 3. all the rest. ;o))
Brandon is officially a FRM of mine. (Fictitious Role Model.)
I don't have very many FRMs... because...well...you know. They're... not real! But I secretly put Brandon on my "Mark This Guy -- I Want My Future Husband To Be Like Him" list.
He changed SO much from the first of the book until the end -- as did Sunny -- but Brandon's growth was so incredible. He was an immature, rich 23 year old guy who sailed on ships and handled estates.
Then, in one day, his world toppled and he had to be a comforter, caretaker, question-answerer and world-problem-solver. Oh. And hug-giver. And tear-wipe-awayer.
I guess his compassion is what I liked the most. He was so understanding and he had such a desire to understand his little friend, Sunny. I believe I have fell in love with him! LOL

Sunny, on the other hand, reminds me too much of me. I stand her, only, for a few chapters at a time, and then I have to set her down. Her strong-will and set jaw make me feel very small as I realize how immature those actions are. I have been working very hard on being myself and trying not to cover my feelings over the past year, and God's helped me a bunch with that. I've been able to just open up to people and talk about stuff -- it's nice.

Since I'm only half-way through the book, I'm not sure what else I'll be feeling by the end, =) but those are my feelings on the first half of the book. =)

I started reading...and couldn't put it down. I finished it (during my 18 subject/14 hour school days!) in less than 24 hours, and I hope to read it 5 million times.

Chapter One was Debi's personal story. It was encouraging to see how God worked for her. =) It helped me to see that I do not need (so much) to pray for a guy to love me, I need to pray for a guy to love God more than anything else in this World, and then I can ask God to introduce me. It was a very intriguing thought...
For Debi, God right out told her when she was very young exactly who she was to marry.

Ruth meets Ray and they fall in love, but then Kelly comes back on a shipment to where Ray works, and he comes back to Ruth dating Ray and Kelly’s child, but Kelly doesn’t know it’s his child. Ray backs down to Kelly, Ruth explains to Kelly, but Kelly leaves her, and Ray marries her.

PART ONE

OREGON

Tuesday, 10 AM

Ruth Scarlet Dover twirled her finger around a thick, auburn strand of tangled curls. Gazing over the West Coast at the beach, her eyes wafted to a particularly gigantic wave that spun and churned around a massive boulder. Upon instinct, she backed away, even though the wave was twenty yards distant from her.

“Ben,” her voiced cracked as she glanced around her shoulder. Wasn’t Benjamin right behind her? She walked towards the beach, her cunning eyes sharp. Where could he have gone? Why was she always losing him?

“Benjamin!” Ruth began jogging towards the salty water. “Ben! Answer me!” She peered over a rock, getting her feet wet in the process. Where would a toddler hide? She spun around to the sound of a broken wave. “BEN!” Ruth screamed, running into the deep waves and scooping up her son, “Oh, God, help him to be all right!” Breathing hard and sopping wet, Ruth struggled through the waves toward the terrified toddler. The waves were too strong! She couldn’t make it!

Girl's Night Out

My friends and I (including Miss Kellie, Miss Laura, Miss Michelle, Miss Tasha, Miss aMandalin, and Miss Ellen) went for a small adventure last night. We slept down by the pond -- in a tent, but we were sopping wet by morning. And there was seven of us -- in a two man tent. Um.

I recently made a new friend. She is very kind and sweet, and is always wanting to know more about being a Christian. She asked me today what my favorite perfume was.
I thought about my response. Would she understand? "Well," I answered slowly, "I like Princess Vera Wang -- which I own -- and I also like Playboy, but I don't own Playboy because I don't want to tell people what I am wearing."
She considered that, and replied, "Ya, I know what you mean. I have some stuff from Victoria's Secret like that."
I continued, "Actually, I try not to wear a lot of perfume at all."
She quickly answered, "Why not!? I love perfume!"
"Well, I just try to save it for special occations because I know it intoxicates a guy if I'm wearing a lot of it, and I try to be a pillar for them, not a stumbling block, you know?"
"You know," she pondered my statement, "I've never thought of that. It does draw attention to yourself if it's very strong so I try not to use too much but I've never thought of it from a guys' perspective. I should have though because from time to time a guy has walked by and their cologne has drawn my attention to them so I don't know why I haven't thought about that towards myself. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!"
I smiled, "It actually just came to my attention when, a couple of days ago a guy from one of my classes walked by and -- oh my -- he smelled *so* *good* not to be rude or anything, but he did, and then I thought to myself, 'Wow. I do *not* want to be a stumbling block for my fellow guy friends.'"
"Ya," she answered, understandingly, "I totally understand that now."
